It is essential that mental health and pediatric clinicians serving children and adolescents have an understanding of psychological testing. They need to know when to refer a youngster for such testing, and they must be able to understand the results of testing when it has been performed for a youngster in their care. Typical questions that warrant a referral for psychological or neuropsychological testing include, but are not limited to, the following:
